Why we built this
If you've ever tried to compare quotes for a koi pond or aquarium installation, you'll know the problem: every quote looks completely different, it's nearly impossible to know what's included, and the gap between the cheapest and most expensive can be $20,000+ with no obvious explanation.
We built Custom Koi Ponds to solve that problem. Our model is simple and borrowed from what SolarQuotes did for solar: independent education first, transparent pricing information, and a matching service that connects educated buyers with vetted specialists.
How we make money
Installers pay to be part of our vetted network and receive leads. We receive a referral fee when we connect a buyer with an installer. This is disclosed clearly. It does not influence our editorial content — we write honestly about what makes a good pond and what to watch out for, regardless of whether any installer on our network builds that way.
Our editorial approach
All cost ranges on this site are researched from real Australian quotes and verified with industry sources. We update them annually. We don't publish ranges that make the numbers look attractive — we publish honest ranges that include the expensive versions too, because surprises after you've signed a contract are the worst possible outcome.
